The Louisiana Division of the Arts (LDOA) Arts-in-Education Program Initiatives include:

  • Imagination, Creativity and Innovation Initiative (ICI) ICI is an initiative being piloted in eight schools throughout Louisiana. Participating schools are given the tools and support needed to integrate the arts into curriculum. In ICI schools the process of creating, performing and responding to art is used to increase student achievement, increase attendance by students and staff, lower rates of retention raise self-esteem, decrease discipline problems, encourage greater parent participation and grow a sense of community. For more information about the Imagination, Creativity and Innovation Initiative, click here.

  • Poetry Out Loud - The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with state arts agencies of the United States to support Poetry Out Loud, which encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. Poetry Out Loud Poetry is administered in partnership with the State Arts Agencies of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Over 1200 students in Louisiana participated in this program during the 2010/2011 school year. Visit Poetry Out Loud for more information about this national program.

  • Professional Development - Each year, LDOA strives to create professional development opportunities for teaching artists, classroom teachers and administrators. Since 2009, LDOA has partnered with the Kennedy Center to provide much of this professional development. Please check our website often to learn about future opportunities.

  • Technical Assistance - Louisiana Division of the Arts staff is available to assist with writing lesson plans, modeling sample lessons, observing and providing feedback to teachers, and other services that may be needed.
